FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RAMROD Returns to Mount Rainier National Park

Redmond, WA -
The Redmond Cycling Club (RCC) is thrilled with the return of the iconic Ride Around Mount Rainier in One Day (RAMROD) that will occur on September 4, 2024. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the one most difficult, yet most revered cycling event that covers 150 miles,10,000 feet of climbing and circumnavigates majestic Mount Rainier.

The traditional date in July was moved to September as a compromise to hold the event outside of the first year of Mount Rainier National Park Timed Entry program. The change in direction to a clockwise route will be a pilot program to accommodate safety because of less available daylight and the transition to late summer/early fall weather patterns.

“I am so glad to have been able to help facilitate an agreement between the Redmond Cycling Club and Mount Rainier National Park to ensure the continuation of RAMROD along a stunning route to continue their tradition," said Congresswoman Kim Schrier. “I hope to continue to work together to reach our shared goal of an annual incredible bicycle ride in one of the most stunning locations in the world.”

Traditionally a lottery system was held to accommodate 800 riders for the event, but this year registration was done on a first-come, first-serve basis. The ride sold out in less than a day.

“This is the first time we are going east to west in September, so safety will continue to be a focus for riders, their fellow motorists and pedestrians,” said George Thorton, the Director of RAMROD. “All riders will be required to carry and use the appropriate lights. Our rider instructions also include the Washington bicycle traffic laws, and a number of volunteers will be present to work with the Park and officials.

Cyclists will start from Enumclaw and head east immediately towards the climb of Cayuse Pass. They will then enter the Park at the Stevens Canyon entrance before taking on the challenging and beautiful ascent towards Reflection Lake and Inspiration Point, the highest elevation of the ride.  From there it is downhill to exit the Park and then another 65 miles through the towns of Elbe and Eatonville before returning from the west to Enumclaw.

For the 40th time we embark on a great adventure that seeks to answer the beckoning call from Mount Rainier.
